here is always a longer list of to-dos than what our trustees and custodial staff can keep up with. Having a couple cleaning days a year is a good way to knock down that list. On October 19 about 20 people from our congregation showed up for a workday.
Some of the Elderberries (a self-named group of our Elders’ and Pastors’ wives) came and worked, along with one of the ladies Bible Study groups, some trustees, along with a couple husbands and wives. The lobby was cleaned including our AC units, windows washed. One person repainted the doors along the hallway covering up all the dings and nicks. After the Men’s Breakfast was done, a couple people got busy scrubbing walls and appliances in the kitchen, and the floor was scrubbed too. Men did some of the heavy lifting type jobs like run electrical wires, reattached shelves to walls, and power washed our folding chairs outside in the parking lot. Also Room 128 was painted and looks great. We had lunch about noon and then went right back to work. Most people left about 2pm but a few hung around and left about 4:00.
We are called The Body in scripture which means we all have different skills and are unique, but coming together like we did on Saturday is also what The Body is for, to meet the needs of our building. When people outside The Body see the love we have for our building, then we are salt and light. Even a simple thing like shopping for our workday, people ask questions and it gives us an opportunity to share about our God, our church and the love we have for both.
My goal moving forward is to keep a list of items that need fixed, painted, hung, or repaired so when I am asked, “Is there anything that I can do?” I will be able to give them some options. So call the church and I will get back to you about helping. We will have another workday in the Spring and I look forward to seeing you here.
I can’t say thank you enough to all those who came to help. I’m proud when I see people who might not even know each other working together and building relationships. It makes me smile and I know that it makes our Lord smile as well. Thanks again.
