Encouraging the Next Generation

February Seniors Luncheon

This past February, our Seniors luncheon was truly a special gathering. We welcomed Ben and Kathy Walker, who shared their journey of faith and ministry. Ben grew up in Detroit, where he accepted Christ and became involved in Boys Brigade. When the program in Akron needed leadership, he and Kathy moved here so he could serve. Over the years, he’s been an elder board member, heavily involved in local ministry, and deeply committed to the church. Hearing how God has used him was a blessing to everyone.

We also heard from Joe Furno, who shared exciting updates about the youth ministry. Our church family plays a big role in supporting his work, helping with camp scholarships and funding projects. Joseph spoke about coaching the high school basketball team and how that’s brought young people into our church on Wednesdays and Sundays. He needed extra Bibles for his Thursday morning Bible study at the school, and our folks stepped up, providing 10 to 15 Bibles—and, of course, donuts! It’s inspiring to see our church members investing in the next generation.

I hope our Seniors group continues to embrace opportunities to encourage young people. Many of us have walked with the Lord for years, gaining wisdom that can guide the next generation. Through prayer, mentorship, and support, we can show these students that we can trust God, even in tough times.

Our Luncheon was a Potluck but on a fun note—deviled eggs were, once again, the first thing to disappear at the potluck. Maybe one day, I’ll actually get one!
