Seniors April Luncheon

We hosted a potluck that brought everyone’s best dishes—salads, desserts, main courses. You name it, we had it. There’s something uniquely fun about piling up your plate only to realize you’re only halfway through the line! And don’t get me started on the dessert table. We had the opportunity to swap recipes and laugh together—it’s those little moments that build community.

Each month, we try to spark connections with something light-hearted, like a brain teaser quiz at each table. It’s an easy way to break the ice and get folks thinking and talking. After eating, we go over the answers together and share a few laughs.

April’s luncheon stood out because of our guest speaker, Dr. Jason Kolb. Only months ago, he had a skiing accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down. His story hit home. He spoke about pain, about losing the life he once knew, and most of all, about choosing to stay focused on Christ despite it all. I could relate. After a battle with COVID that nearly took my life, I found the same truth: in the hardest moments, it’s Christ who holds us steady.
I’ve always believed real ministry happens around the table—with good food, good people, and meaningful stories. That’s the heart behind our monthly Seniors Luncheon, and April’s gathering was no exception.
Planning these luncheons takes perseverance and a team willing to show up and do their part. But seeing smiles as people walk in, feeling the warmth of community, and hearing someone say, “This meant so much to me”—that’s what makes every effort worth it.
