Movie, Popcorn and Fellowship

Women's Movie Night

Last month, we decided to try something new for fellowship—a movie night! The idea came from wanting to do something fun and different, so we decided on a casual evening together for the women of the church. We watched *Unsung Hero*, which tells the story of Rebecca St. James’  family and the singing group For King and Country.

I don’t want to give any spoilers in case you still might want to see the movie.  Just to highlight a few parts, it is about their journey of trusting God through hardships as they immigrated to the U.S. from Australia with almost nothing. For me, the biggest takeaway was this: God shows up in unexpected ways, often when we need Him most.

The night was simple but meaningful. We had all the essentials—pizza, candy, popcorn, and even raffled off a DVD of the movie. One of our ladies bought the DVD and then realized she had already bought it in digital format! Still, it gave us a fun moment for someone to win the raffle.

Despite the snowy weather, we had a pretty good turnout—26 people, though we originally expected 40. Weather and tracking attendance turned out to be a bit challenging with people uncertain if they’d brave the forecast. But sitting together, sharing snacks, and laughing about how subtitles saved us from being totally lost in the Australian accents made it worth every effort.

Next time, we’re planning a movie afternoon to better include our older ladies who prefer not to drive at night. Whether it’s young or old, we want everyone to feel welcome. It’s not just about the movie—it’s about being together and seeing how God works through moments like these.
