From Blank Canvas to Joy

Women’s Paint and Praise

Looking back on our recent women’s paint night (really more of an afternoon), I can’t help but smile. It was such a peaceful, enjoyable time. We’ve done a handful of paint events before, and they’re always a hit, even with those of us who claim we can’t paint! Sherry Watkins led us step by step through creating a simple yet beautiful flower arrangement on a 10x10 canvas—complete with the word "Joy." She made it easy for everyone, offering ways to make it simpler or more detailed, depending on skill level.

What made this event even more special was that we opened it up to teenage girls. It was great having them join us, adding to the fellowship. That’s really what these events are all about—building relationships and providing opportunities for people to invite friends who might not normally come to church. In fact, there’s one woman who’s been coming to our church for over a year now, and her first event was last year’s paint night!

Of course, no church event is complete without food, and we had plenty of snacks on hand to keep the creative energy flowing.

Looking ahead, we’re planning future events, like movie nights and maybe even a prayer walk combined with a hike. And yes, we’ll likely have another paint event—we just need to figure out how to avoid needing to tape things to cover the floor next time!

Events like these take teamwork. Many women have stepped up to help, from planning to decorating, and while it can be exhausting, it’s always worth it. The feedback has been so encouraging, and we can’t wait to see what’s next for our women’s ministry!
