Rethinking Easter, No Eggs, Only Jesus

Kids’ Easter Sunday

This year, for Easter, we decided to do things a little differently. In the past, like many churches, we put on the standard egg hunt, invited lots of people, handed out candy, and then hoped we’d see them again. Honestly, our follow-up success was pretty low, so last year we started rethinking Easter.

We shifted our focus to only Easter Sunday morning. No egg hunt. Instead, we poured our energy into making Sunday morning intentional and meaningful. And let me tell you, it was so worth it.

We really wanted the morning to feel like Easter—not just another Sunday, and not just a show. The kids worshiped, made an empty tomb craft, and experienced the Resurrection story in a real and engaging way.  Three kids made a decision for Christ that day. That alone made it all worthwhile. On top of that, we had three new families join us. Two have stuck around and are now regulars! It was such a joy getting to connect with them and hear their stories.

Oh, and the balloon surprise? There were over 300 balloons filling the entire kids' area. The kids walked in asking, “What did Mr.Todd do?”   That was exactly the reaction I was going for! Each child got to leave with a balloon, as a reminder: Jesus is risen!

With over 60 kids across two services, the energy was amazing. And our volunteers? Incredible. I came downstairs expecting to clean up balloons—and they’d already popped every last one. It was all done. I got to go home with my wife and daughter.

It was a great morning. Honestly, it felt like we accomplished what we’ve always hoped Easter could be.
