ach year, our church takes part in Operation Christmas Child, a global initiative through Samaritan’s Purse, led by Franklin Graham. It’s a mission close to our hearts. Participants fill shoe boxes with items for children, selecting by gender and age group. These boxes are then sent worldwide, often serving as the only gift a child might ever receive. But the impact goes deeper—it’s also about sharing the gospel and spreading the love of Christ.
At our church, we ask the congregation to voluntarily take a box or two to fill and then we collect them back before they are to be dropped off. From there, they’re sent to a processing center where Bibles and ministry tools are added before heading overseas. In some cases, children receive these gifts during special services hosted by local missionaries, creating a moment of joy and faith.
This year, we packed 150 boxes, surpassing last year’s total of 125. A new initiative involved preschool families, contributing to the effort with 20 additional boxes. Our youth group also played a huge role, assembling the boxes and praying over each one—a powerful reminder of the love we hope these gifts carry.
Filling the boxes thoughtfully is key. We focus on items that can be shared, like soccer balls or jump ropes, as well as personal necessities like soap and toothbrushes. Donations throughout the year are vital, ensuring no box goes partially filled.
Operation Christmas Child is a beautiful reminder of how small acts of love can make a global impact. It’s a joy to know our church people continue to rally behind this ministry. Thank you to everyone for your help and support!
