Kicking Off The Season with Flavor

Seniors August Luncheon

E

very August is our kick-off luncheon for the season. We are always excited for the August picnic because our neighbor Bill Bender donates the meat and barbecues it for us. His daughter went to our preschool and he truly loves and supports our ministries here at Community.  This year we had salmon and chicken but in years past we’ve had hotdogs, hamburgers, chicken, pork, etc.  He cooks professionally for large businesses grilling on a grill that is pulled behind his truck.  It is always very tasty.

In the past five years we have been in the parking lot, in the pavilion, the back yard under a tent, or in the lobby of the church. Our main fellowship hall is usually our gym, however until recently, it has not had AC, it's been inaccessible, and has not had an adequate sound system.  This year, our renovation is finished and the gym is great.  Everything is working including a Lift/elevator to help those who struggle with steps.

We had over 100 people who signed up and came to enjoy fellowship and food.  This was our largest luncheon yet.  If my calculations are correct, about 20% of our attendees were guests who had been invited.  That is so exciting.  Ministry Leaders joined us and gave reports to keep us up to date on the growth of the various ministries around our church and what they need.

We are a growing family and it is important to continue to meet one another.  We meet every month except June and we usually have a potluck luncheon, where we provide pans of fried chicken or some other entree and the attendees bring salads and desserts. Please come and join us in September.  We’d love to see you there.
